______________________________________________________ Confirmation Candidates perform community service as part of the Confirmation program. The form found below can be used to record service hours. Confirmation at St. Mark's Baptized Catholics must receive the Sacrament of Confirmation "at the appropriate time." In order to be confirmed, a person must be "suitably instructed, properly disposed, and able to renew one's baptismal promises (Code of Canon Law 890, 889.2)."
In the Diocese of San Diego, the bishop has set the age for the Sacrament of Confirmation at 15 years old in ordinary circumstances. At St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church the Sacrament of Confirmation is normally received in the tenth grade year, following a two year Catechetical preparation. If any St. Mark parishoner over the age of 15 has not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation, he should contact the parish office as soon as possible in order to be enrolled in a preparation class suited to his age.
Preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation consists of weekly classes held on Monday evenings throughout the school year, completion of community service, and a retreat in November of the second year. The goal of this preparation period is to train those who are to be confirmed in the basic doctrine of the Catholic Faith, to instruct them concerning the Sacrament of Confirmation, and to prepare them to live out a life in union with Jesus and the Catholic Church. Schedule To better accomodate each individual's schedule we offer three different class times on Monday evenings: 4:15 - 5:30pm, 6:30 - 7:45pm, & 8:05 - 9:15pm. There is no guarantee however that one will be placed in his or her preferred class time, as each class is limited to 30 students.
Cost St. Mark's is teeming with Catholic youth! As a result of this blessing, the Confirmation Program is one of the largest of its kind. The costs of such a program, including books, Catechetical resources, retreats, etc., could not be supported by the parish without the generosity of the parishioners, in particular, the parents of the Candidates for Confirmation. The cost for the program is $55 per student each year, however if there are two students enrolled from the same family it is $100 total, or $130 for 3 students from the same family. Please know that cost will not be an inhibiting factor for anyone wishing to participate in the Confirmation program. If money is a problem please come and speak with us so that we can work out a solution.
